Haxby Lions 6 Acorn FC 5
29th November, 2009

The new pride of Lion's obviously prefer the warm weather. At the start of the season, Trev could have 10 "Cougars" not getting changed. On a cold day, when the rain has been hammering down all night and doesn't look like stopping, only 12 Lions are available. Despite missing so many, a strong side is still picked, and ref Mushy insists the game must go ahead despite Gaz Dicko having to sweep the water from the goal mouth every 2 minutes. As both sides tried to adjust to the conditions, chances were created at both ends and it was Acorn who took the lead. Unbelievably, the Lions being behind has not been a common situation this season, but soon enough pressure paid and we were equal. Acorn players weren't happy with a couple of Niko's decisions and their centre half went over-board and ended up being sent off. This let us dominate, although going forward, Acorn were still a threat. Before half-time Dranny and Adam Wash managed to give us a 2-1 lead. If it wasn't for some brilliant saves by their keeper we could have been out of sight.

We knew they would come at us second half so were geared up for a good 10 mins. After 2 of these, we conceded from a corner. We never really got going after that, playing some good football in patches (Dranny got a couple more goals which made us think the game was safe) but we were allowing Acorn to attack easily. Gradually Acorn found confidence and with 10 men, tied things up with 2 minutes left at 5-5. Trev went ballistic; would these be the Lion's first dropped points? Any other season we'd have got beat, but with our attacking threat we are always likely to score. A quick break down the left put Dranny in on goal, who from a tight angle bagged the winner with only seconds left. The 100% record (just) remains in tact.

Lions Goals : Dransfield 5, A.Wash 1 - M.O.M : Tomo
